Dr Marewa Glover is one of New Zealand’s leading tobacco control researchers and the leading expert on smoking among Indigenous peoples in the world. Glover is a former Professor of Public Health at Massey University and a former chair of End Smoking NZ, a charitable trust that lobbied for tobacco harm reduction for more than a decade. As a behavioral scientist, Glover has led and collaborated on many studies resulting in more than 120 scientific publications. In 2019, she was one of three finalists for the prestigious New Zealander of the Year Award in recognition of her dedication to reducing tobacco smoking for 30 years and advocating for a harm-reduction approach. In 2018, Dr Glover established the Centre of Research Excellence: Indigenous Sovereignty & Smoking. Funding for the Centre’s program of research was obtained following a researcher-initiated application for a grant from the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World, Inc. (“FSFW”), a US non-profit 501(c)(3) private foundation. Dr Glover is also tobacco section editor for the international Harm Reduction Journal.
