Maria Spyraki is now serving her second mandate in the European Parliament with the party of Nea Demokratia – European People’s Party (EPP), as a full member of the ENVI and ITRE Committee. During this mandate, she has been the rapporteur of 12 Reports, Opinions and Motions for Resolutions. Indicatively, she was the rapporteur on behalf of the European Parliament on the strategy to reduce methane emissions, which became a global pledge in COP26 Glasgow adopted by more than 100 countries, including the US. She is also the rapporteur of the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability, a crucial file which is paving the way on amending chemical legislation. Maria Spyraki’s first degree is in Chemistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has an MSc in Energy Law, Business, Regulation and Policy from IHU, Greece. She worked for 22 years as a journalist.
