Prof./Dr. Rafael R. Castillo has been called a multifaceted physician—a public health educator, a university professor, strategic leader, researcher, lecturer, writer/editor, entrepreneur, and staunch health advocate. He is a retired professor in Cardiovascular Medicine, and currently a hospital-based internist-cardiologist in a tertiary medical center (Manila Doctors Hospital). He is a diplomate in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, and a Fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine College of Cardiology, International Society of Hypertension and European Society of Cardiology. He is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (Cum Laude) and had his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiology at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital. He also completed his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at the Adventist University of the Philippines (Summa Cum Laude). He is a past president of the Philippine Heart Association-Philippine College of Cardiology, Philippine Society of Hypertension, and Asian Pacific Society of Hypertension. He is currently a Trustee/Council Member of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), and head of the ISH International Forum and chair of the ISH Regional Advisory Groups. He is Dean Emeritus of the FAME Leaders Academy (FLA) and Head of the FLA Cardio-Metabolic Research Unit (CaMeRU). He is a recipient of 44 awards for Leadership, Research, and Professional Excellence. Since 2000, he has published more than 1,200 commentaries on various health concerns in his weekly health column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the leading national broadsheet in the Philippines.
